First relatives steps when the death occurs

The conditions concerning the way and death’s location diversify the actions you will need to do at that moment.

For example, if the death occurred in a hospital, clinic or nursing home, the institution’s attending doctor will certify the death (and issue the death certificate) by completing the details of the deceased from the identification card, which you should have with you.

In case that the death occurs at home due to natural causes, then you need to notify your family’s doctor who will certify the death with the same way.

In the case that the death occurred suddenly of unknown causes, you should inform the police, who will then order an autopsy by the Forensic Service, so as the Forensic Surgeon determines the death’s cause.

In any case it will be helpful to contact us directly, as the emotional charge at this time will not be a good counselor of the following actions. For our experience, we will give you the necessary directions you would need to follow in order to avoid any further inconvenience.

We undertake the death’s declaration by the appropriate registry office, for which we need:

  • Death’s certificate
  • The identity card of the deceased
  • SSN and TIN of the deceased
  • Certain additional information regarding the profession, the marital status of the deceased, his permanent residence etc.

Having the above will give you the death certificates, which will be useful for the insurance and tax authorities etc..

Along with the death certificate, the identity of the deceased and all of the above information, you need to provide us with the latest clothing of the deceased. Basically cotton is preferred rather than heavy clothing (eg. Sweater) or synthetic, which does not facilitate the decomposition of the corpses.
